How does the bank connection work?
We use Plaid — the same technology powering Venmo, Robinhood, and thousands of financial apps. You connect your bank through Plaid's secure interface. We never see your login credentials. Plaid sends us a read-only feed of your transactions, which we use to detect rent payments automatically.
How does rent detection work?
When you add a tenant and set their monthly rent amount, RentDesk watches your bank feed for matching incoming payments. We match by amount, date, and reference if available — then automatically mark the rent as paid for that property. You can also manually confirm matches if a tenant pays a different amount.
What banks are supported?
Plaid connects to over 11,000 financial institutions across the US and Canada including Chase, Bank of America, TD Bank, RBC, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC, and virtually every major bank and credit union. If your bank offers online banking, it almost certainly works with Plaid.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your account settings at any time. You keep access until the end of your billing period and we don't charge anything further. No cancellation fees, no retention calls.
Is my financial data safe?
Your data is encrypted at rest and in transit using AES-256 and TLS. We use Supabase for our database — an enterprise-grade Postgres platform — and Plaid for bank connectivity. We never store your bank credentials. Your financial data is never sold to third parties.
Does this replace my accountant?
No — but it makes your accountant's job much easier (and cheaper). RentDesk organises all your income and expenses throughout the year and generates a ready-to-hand-over Schedule E report. Most of our users say their accountant bills dropped when they started using it.
